Br\u00faarfoss is also called the blue waterfall and means \u201cbridge over waterfall\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The river Br\u00faar\u00e1 flows down over 2-3 meter and ends in a U shape slot. The waterfall is very photogenic because of this shape and the blue color of the water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The waterfall is about 14,5 km from Laugarvatn, You can drive to Brekkusk\u00f3gur and walk from there, it takes around 30 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Take road 1 up to Mosfellsb\u00e6r. Turn into road 36 to \u00deingvellir. From there take road 365 to Laugarvatn and in addition take road 37 in the direction to the Geysir. About 2-3 kilometres after you crossed road 355 you will reach a large summer house area on the left side. Take the first road into this area and drive straight ahead. Just follow this way since you reach a bigger path with two tracks. Turn left since you reach the end of this road. There you can park your car and follow the little foot path right over the first bridge and further till you reach the waterfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Br\u00faarfoss derives its name from a natural stone arch over the river near the waterfall in earlier times. The story goes that an employee of the diocese Sk\u00e1lholt destroyed the bridge in 1602 when there was great famine in Iceland. He wanted to keep away the hungry passants who came to Sk\u00e1lholt for food. Some time later, the man drowned himself in the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
